Crystal Johnson-Bessix is on her way to PhD Status!

Dear edOpp Network:

As most of you know, I have been on a long journey in pursuit of my doctoral degree in Leadership Studies at Our Lady of the Lake University. After navigating through both personal and business challenges and successes, I am beyond excited to enter the final stage of my doctoral journey as Principal Investigator for the research study entitled An Examination of the Differences in Leadership Characteristics Between Entrepreneurial Leaders and Organizational Leaders. You are cordially invited to participate in this study.

The purpose of this research study is to contribute to current research and knowledge in the emerging concept of entrepreneurial leadership. I hope that it will inform entrepreneurial leaders of the key leadership characteristics that may have an impact on their business and inform organizational leaders who are interested in intrapreneurship of the key characteristics more prevalent in entrepreneurial leaders. I seek to offer a contemporary view on the differences of “outstanding leader” characteristics between Houston area entrepreneurs and organizational leaders. Additionally, I am interested in understanding how gender impacts the differences in characteristics between entrepreneurial and organizational leaders. Finally, this study provides a personal connection to me, someone who has been an entrepreneur for the past 11 years.

The ideal participant is someone who identifies with one of the following statements:

  • I am an entrepreneur working for more than 30 hours in my own business

  • I am an entrepreneur working less than 30 hours in my own business

  • I am not an entrepreneur but am an organizational leader working more than 30 hours for a business I do not own

  • I am not an entrepreneur but am an organizational leader working less than 30 hours for a business I do not own

  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 75

The study takes less than 20 minutes and involves completing basic demographic information and the GLOBE (Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness) Phase III instrument to identify your actual leadership behavior in Charismatic 1: Visionary, Charismatic 3: Self-Sacrifice, and Performance-Oriented.

Participation is completely voluntary. You may withdraw from the study at any time. The study is completely anonymous; therefore, it does not require you to provide your name or any other identifying information. There is no way to connect your identity with any of your responses. If you choose to participate, you may stop participation at any time without penalty.
